# Connection Methods

ExaVault supports SFTP, FTP, FTPS, and WebDAV. Choose the protocol that matches both the client and the security requirements of the connection.

SFTP uses SSH encryption and SSH keys. FTPS and WebDAV use TLS and the active certificate installed on the appliance. Plain FTP sends credentials, commands, and file contents without encryption.

FTP and FTPS also use separate data connections.
